Channel 4 | Horse Tracker - Responsive App design

Over three days of racing at the 2013 John Smiths Grand National, Channel 4 and Monterosa delivered an unprecedented level of detail direct from the track to viewers’ devices - live, and with the help of Civolution's Audio Watermarking, synced perfectly with their TV coverage. The groundbreaking #1 free app, delivering a realtime view of all horses at the UK’s biggest racing event. I was part of the team who came up with the concept and designs for this app, available on iPhone, mobile and desktop web.

The app was developed natively for iOS to deliver maximum functionality, with a responsive HTML5 alternative for other platforms. Horse Tracker gives racing fans access to a range of live, granular data on any of the runners, including position, speed and acceleration, distance left to run, distance to the leader and fences left to jump.

Matching the live data to an inaudible watermark in the broadcast signal enables the app to display information in perfect sync with the TV picture, overcoming the variable broadcast delays associated with different TV viewing platforms.
